Hello and welcome!

My name is Monique, and I am a former accountant who turned away from the corporate world to become a freelance writer.
Why would I make such a drastic change? Why would I turn away from a lucrative career?
Because I wanted to do something I had always loved, and the world changed.
Back in 2006, I had an incredible job working in the mortgage industry. If you know anything about that time in history, you’re probably already cringing.
Even though the company I worked for was legit, a lot of fraud was happening across the industry. Many factors led to the ongoing housing bubble bursting throughout 2007 and 2008. Several lenders went out of business, including my employer, and the event had a ripple effect on the entire economy leading to the Great Recession.
How did this impact me?
I was laid off four times in five years. Yes, you read that right.
Every time I got hired, I took a pay cut. The results devastated me as a single woman with only one source of income. Let’s just say that my financial situation was less than ideal, and I wish I had planned better for unexpected events.
And that’s the reason for this blog!
I want people to understand that so many factors can impact your finances, and the more you’re prepared, the better.
I will try to incorporate my own experiences in the content you find here while providing tips to potentially help you avoid financial pitfalls. With that said, please remember that the content you find here is based on my personal situation and is not to be intended as professional legal or financial advice.
Switching careers might not be the best solution for you, or you may cringe at the thought of running your own business. This is not a one-size-fits-all type of site, but it may spark some ideas to help you manage finances better so you can focus on doing anything besides worrying about money!
